O'Briens Sandwiches @ Queensbay

I love smoked salmon! It's like yummy jelly in your mouth..  and everybody knows that I'll go for IKEA's smoked salmon every single time i'm down in KL.
To satisfy my cravings for smoked salmon back up here in Penang, well I have O'briens to turn too...

They have this salmon sandwiches which costs a bom RM15.50 for 2 slices ie. one square cut into 2 pieces.

But I usually go for the 'make your own sandwich' choice costing RM11 plus RM5 for smoked salmon. Total cost would usually come to RM16++
That way, I got to have my salmon and other meats too! :))

Look at the choice of dressings... and salads... and and and...  fillings... yummmmm

Uniqlo @ Queensbay Mall

Uniqlo has finally opened its doors on the shores of Penang island! Yes!! I still remember my first Uniqlo shopping experience in Singapore's ION mall back in 2010. Yes, it's been thaaaattt long! My first ever purchase from there was a round neck striped T-shirt. Still have it, still wear it, still as comfortable...

 

So, back to Penang. On the 8th of March, Uniqlo had it's grand opening. And with it's ceremonious opening, comes good offers and deals! Yes, their opening sales was a good enough deal to attract many on the first day of opening. The best deal being the free tote bag to the first 500 people who walked into the shop.

 

No, I wasn't one of the 500, but it did cross my mind to go be amongst the first 500. Unfortunately, 8th was on a friday, and like most middle-class people trying to earn a living, I was at work on Fridays...

 

Sigh... nevertheless, I was at Uniqlo's on the 9th.

 

And... AND... A.N.D I got my tote bag nonetheless...hahaha

 

 

See, my lovely cotton tote bag... !!! It came with a purchase of RM200 and above...so, yeah, I basically used money to get this bag :)

 

So, the total damage caused came to RM289.90!!!

 

 

 I just love the paper bags the Uniqlo had to offer that day... nice Disney ones... they also had Hello Kitty paper bags in white, but dunno why the cashier who served me gave me all 3 bags of the same kind... APALER!!!...

I bought 2 T-shirts, 2 pairs of Jeans, and 2 jackets... OMG only now do I realise that I bought everything in twos... aisheh....

The T-shirts were going for RM24.90 each. Original price was RM59.90 which was brought down to an initial RM49.90. and the opening sales brought it down even further. They were, of course off season prints...

I got one Barbie print that came with a free hair band, and another Mickey Mouse print, hence the 3 Disney paper bags :))

They were also selling these skin-tight jeans for RM49.90 per pair... so worth it! Got 2, one in sea-blue and another in navy.

Their largest sizes were 29 ... ooppss, now you know how fat I am...

The coats were also at opening sale prices. RM69.90 each. Loved this buy! I bought one for mum and another for me.

Manhattan Fish Market @ Queensbay Mall

 It's food voucher time! Yes, Manhattan Fish Market was having this promotion for their small platter with soup and drink for only RM28. I bought this coupon from I Love Discounts.
The main dish was the Small Platter. It was a plate ie 'platter' of dory fish with 4 grilled prawns with their special signature sause! It came with buttered rice, carrots and brocolli. What more could I have asked? Absolutely love MFM!

 This is the soup. I think it was chowder?? (sorry can't remember). The cubes you see there are actually potato chunks :)) Very creamy and thick! Excellent...

Oh, to suppliment the meal, we ordered country mushrooms! My favourtie! (not pictured here though. I have a picture in my previous post entry) These were the sause that our food came in.
 From the top, Honey mustard - came with the mushrooms.. best ever sause..! Next is Mayo, Chilli, Tomato and Thousand island.

My Daiso Haul

Today, post-call and half drowssy, I made my way to Queensbay to have lunch and to specifically shop at Daiso.

Ever since I bought the IKEA cupboard, I've been wanting the drawer separators found only from Daiso.
It's simple to asemble and keeps my drawers tidy (however temporary that maybe)

Managed to get the bag hanger too! Now i can dine anywhere and hang my bags or buys underneath the table without the hassle of looking for an extra chair :)

Oh, and this time, I manage to get my hands on this huge (the largest that's on sale) gift box - pink stripes with star-dotted cover. It's usually hard to find huge boxes still left on the shelves as they are in demand. I was lucky there were only 5 left, out of the rows of mini mini boxes.

All in all, my Daiso haul included 1 pretty pink box, 2 metal hangers, 1 plastic drawer divider, 1 plastic divider holder, and 1 bag hanger... Grand total of RM30 + RM0.20 for plastic bag :)

11.11.11 Samsung Galaxy Note in Penang

Made sure I woke up early today to get my hands on the new Samsung Galaxy Note @ Queensbay!
Got all excited and with credit card in hand, I went to the event - rhymes!
Ok, ok... at the pit of my stomach I had this sense of disbelieve, that everything was going as planned.
I was worried that there'd be a mad rush for the phone because they were giving free phone covers for the first 50 buyers.

Alamak, I was worried. What if they'd all sold-out before i got there? Btw, I reached at sharp 10.05am when they opened at 10am.

So far so good.

There were 'flies' around but still many phone cases still...

but my 'so far so good' turned-out not to be... and my gut feeling was right. There WAS something that wasn't right.

Other than the phone cover being cheap-looking, it was abt the damn phone itself!
Apparently, the advertisement in the newspaper was so misleading@! $&*%&$##%@%

The salesman at the booth told me that the free phone cover was only for those who signed-up for the phone plan. And they DID NOT sell just the phone, YOU HAVE TO BUY IT WITH A PHONE PLAN!!! O-M-G-!!

I woke-up early for NOTHING!

The guy continued to say that if i wanted just the phone, then i'd have to wait till next week or buy from an authorized Samsung dealer at 1st Avenue.

This was really a WTF situation!

I wanted to eat somebody alive for the MisLeading advertisement! Somebody should be held accountable for this!

I tried calling-up Samsung's careline and they denied everything, saying that the special phone cover give-away was by the telco company, not by Samsung.

Then when i called Digi, they said it was by Samsung! WTF- again!

forget it! I've decided that the blooddy phone cover looks cheap and flimzy, so it's not worth buying a data plan just for that extra phone cover. Besides, the most likely situation is that the so-called crystals would probably just fall off anyway! - given that the crystals are studded all way round the back surface of the phone. So, if you're using the phone often with the note pad and all, the crystals would probably take alot of surface scrapings!

ARgh! Stupid advertisement!

But I still like the phone, though.... gonna get my hands on JUST the phone soon... hopefully.

Vino Vino Bistro

Had lunch @ Vino vino today. It's situated at Bay Avenue, near Queensbay.

First impressions are, that I love the interior decor - elegant chic. The walls and floor are made to look like you're in a cellar.. (dunno if it really was the owner's intention though)

Love the fact that you're surrounded by bottles and bottles of wine and alcohol on display.

I must admit that I don't drink. (not even a glass or a sip) Because I can't stand the taste or the smell of wine, whisky, beer, alcohol, you name it!  :(

But the oddest thing is that I love how the bottles look like and it gives me a since of being in a foreign land, like being overseas. (I know i'm weird)

Anyway, back to the food!

Vino vino offers Japanese cuisine, be it tepanyaki style or the bento kind (served with rice). They have Set Lunches as well as Set Dinners

Since it was lunch time, I settled for their Set Lunches which is way cheaper than the Dinner Sets.

Choice of wine brands from Le Challenge, Michel Lynch, Salisbury.. etc

But the main attraction @ Vino vino is their wines & alcohol, really. They offer those who aren't such heavy drinkers a way to sample their wines and not be forced to buy the whole bottle. They have a 'vending' machine kind of dispenser of wines. Cool!

There are a wide variety of choices available, be it French wines, Autralian wines, South African wines, that come in Red or White, which ever is to your liking! You'll be spoilt for choices :)

So you can order your wine by the cup. Even that comes in choices of small, medium and large! At different prices of course :)

Thus, if you're the light drinker - you could go for the small glass. And if you're big on your drinks, you can settle for a bigger glass! Love the options. But like I said I don't drink. So, for lunch today, I took coffee instead.

 Did I mention that Vino vino serves the best Italian coffee too? Yum! The aroma just fills the room instantly :)

Oh, i'm digressing again. Back to the food~!

Here's what we had:-

Chicken with cheese. This was really good! The chicken meat was properly seasoned and grilled to perfection!

Miso soup that came with the Set Lunches

We ordered 2 Lunch Sets. The CHicken Teriyaki set and the Lamb set. Both came with Miso soup, rice, coffee and fruit!
The Lamb set was a bit tough but real tasty. Oh, and spicy too! That was a surprise - didn't expect it to be that spicy.

A special note should be mentioned that I found their waitress who served our table was very friendly, helpful and professional. (She knew her wines!) She just made eating there more enjoyable! Kudos!

Anyway, I took the Bruce Lee drink and it's a combo of dragon fruit juice and mango blended with ice and yogurt. It tasted ok... quite refreshing. When it came, the bright purple-pink was a stand-out!

And the Hanky Panky was better. It's a blend of lychee, apple and strawberry rolled into one. Loved the colour of this one.

This time around, the total bill came-up to RM99.55 despite the 2 free main courses. (5 pax)
