Ric's Burger @ The One Terrace Plus

 Watch-out McDonald's there's a new burger place in town!
It's called Ric's Burgers located in Bayan Lepas at The One Terrace Plus, nearby Sunshine Square.

I recently tried-out this place in April.

They have a simple menu, offering homemade Pork burgers.
Those who want extra cheese, egg or fries with their burgers, can ask for an add-on

They also have set meals with come with either homemade lemonade/fizzy drink and fries.

Their signature logo up on the wall

This newly opened burger joint is actually quite small with a few tables. Humble beginnings, I should say.. but the staff are friendly and accommodating. I'm sure they will soon expand their place with the many customers that patronise this place :)

So, what we ordered was one set and one ala chart burger.
The set came with freshly squeezed lemonade and hand-cut fries...

One burger with cheese, one with egg.

Both came in a tray-like plate... nice authentic touch ;)

The burgers were really tasty! Loved their pork patty which was crispy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside. Best of all, they managed to cure the pork so the meat was not too strong/over-powering-ly porky. Excellent!!!

Burger with cheese

Burger with egg

Homemade Lemonade. This was a let-down. The drink had not much taste of lemon. Probably because it was really diluted and neither sweet nor sour :( But the burgers were great!

My total bill came to RM15
Here's the breakdown:
Ala chart burger RM5
Set meal RM5 + RM3 (lemonade & hand-cut fries)
RM 1 for egg
RM 1 for cheese

not bad eh? cheap... and yummy

Gloria Jeans Coffee

Penang has yet another coffee outet selling great yummy coffee. I should wanna call it 'designer coffee'. For starters, the pricing of the drink itself puts it in a totally different category as the usual kopitiam (local coffee shops) found along many a streets in downtown Georgetown :)
And for seconds, these 'designer coffees' are, well, mainly imported beans - which smell great, by the way.
Anyhow, Penangites have now, the choice of Gloria Jeans coffees to choose from, apart from the already many other coffee retailers that have sprouted throughout the island. Yay for coffee lovers...

Yes, yes, yes, Gloria Jeans has finally come to Penang. It's first and currently sole outlet in Penang is in 1st Avenue, ground floor to be exact. It has taken home in the outlet which was previously Breeks cafe. The latter has since closed down.

Gloria Jeans has been in Malaysia for some time - only mainly in KL. I have seen Gloria Jeans in KL previously and was wondering if they would ever come-up to Penang. Now that it is available to Penangites, I was pleasantly surprised that Gloria Jeans also carries their own line of Lasagna. I was curious enough to wanna try it out.

It cost me alot, i remember thinking to myself "this better taste good'. Sorry i can;t remember the price though. But in the end i think it tasted like any other microwaved meal - flat.
A big disappointment on my taste buds.

The big safe came from the drinks. I ordered chocolate blended... with cream. YUM! I'm a huge chocolate fan, so no surprise there :)

I'm glad that Penang has now many choices of coffee outlets to choose from. StarBucks N CoffeeBean, you've got competition :)

There's O'brien, Pacific Coffee, and now Gloria Jeans... aaahhh, choices choices :)

Eastern Wishes @ Ideal Avenue

I've been going to this restaurant for some time now. They started off with one shoplot and now has expanded to two! Talk about growing business :)

This is a family-run business and the food speaks for itself. The service is efficient and the food is reasonably priced! They're usually packed during the lunch rush hour, where everyone has to be back at work by 2pm. But as I said, they serve their food fairly fast enough.

They're located just doors away from the JPJ branch on the Island. And near major banks. So you can imagine that finding a parking space during office hours would be a challange.

So, back to the food!

They offer set menus  as well as ala chart recipies, and they also cater to family meals where you can order rice with dishes - yeah a wide selection. Take a look at their menu (*click to enlarge

I usually go for their Tom Yam Noodles. This is like authentic tom yum packed with real ingredients!

Spicy Tom Yam Noodles

See the ingredients circled - lotsa ginger, lime leaves, lemon grass.. etc

Upclose - better view

Ooo.. I'm drooling.. fish, prawns.. tomatoes...

And my second favourite is their Black Pepper Fried Sotong - Crunchy goodness! RM10/plate though

Here's the individual plate - Fried rice with chicken chop - and you can choose your favourite gravy for the chicken (lemon sauce / black pepper)

Who could forget the Ice Kacang!

This place is definately a good place to makan especially if you crave for local food, cafe food, family dishes... everything's under one roof.

Here's were to find it:
