I mum mum restaurant @ All Seasons, Farlim

I mum mum restaurant has finally opened an outlet at All seasons, Farlim.

They offer yummy Chinese noodle dishes...to my surprise, at quite reasonable prices. If I remember correctly, each noodle bow was about RM5 only... and the add-ons (ie ala charte) is probably less than that... super economical :)

Drinks we ordered: Chrysanthemum tea, chilled.
Dessert: Black jelly with lemon... the jelly was quite hard and chewy, unlike the usual.

We felt that the noodles were particularly hard and chewy like their black grass jelly. Although we did specify to cook the noodles a little longer to make it softer... I guess the chef didn't get the memo. or rather, he ignored the memo altogether... (sigh)

Having said that, there wasn't any other thing wrong with the noodle dishes we had. I kinda enjoyed them... Just had to exercise my jaw more for the hard (probably half-cooked) noodles. Luckily, no indigestion...

 

Oldtown Kopitiam @Whiteaways Arcade, Church Street, Penang

The minute you step into this Oldtown Kopitiam outlet in Church Street, you'll be literally transcended back into time... All thanks to the excellently executed décor and ambiance the of the place which recaptures the old charm of the 20th century.

 

This Oldtown kopitiam outlet is located in a newly restored (restoration was completed by 2011) heritage building, now called Whiteaways Arcade. This double storey pre-war building was initially built in 1903! And it showcases typical European facades. Simply beautiful!

 

 

There is a special corner to the left of the restaurant as you enter from the main entrance on Church Street. It is none other than the Spiral Staircase! This is a piece of history in itself.

 A short summary of the history behind the Timber Spiral Staircase can be found at the back of the restaurant. I manage to take a snap-shot of it (pic below)

 Behind the restaurant is the al fresco dining area, mainly for people who smoke. It also overlooks a man made stage made from rocks... I found that super unique and artsy :)

Also, the restrooms at the Whiteaways Arcade have murals of Marilyn Monroe and Charlie Chaplin!! How Super AWESOME!! is that!!! :)

 The tour round this heritage building was so interesting that I almost forgot to go back into Oldtown for my food... hahaha.

Well, the food finally arrived and here's what we ordered.
Two set dinners - one with curry noodles and another was steamed rice with chicken and mushroom.

To be honest, when I got back, everything was on the table, desserts included! All, except for one thing.... the steamed rice with chicken & mushroom ;(

The steamed chicken & mushroom has a waiting time of min 20minutes! To be fair, the warning was stated in the menu. Nevertheless, when it finally did arrive, boy oh boy... the rice was delicious!! The chicken was yummeh!!! Worth all the time waiting!!!

Gold Choice lifestyle cafe @ Bayan Baru

 

 Bayan baru area is now packed with new eateries and restaurants. One such new area is at One Precinct.

 It's something like Oldtown Kopitiam... being named after their own brand of coffee mix. Gold Choice also has its own brand of coffee.

The food they offer is a mixture of local cuisine and western.

Here's what we ordered.

And here's the best of it all... French toast served with kaya! Delicious!!!

Exploring Gurney Paragon (Part 1) - Goku Raku Ramen

Visited Gurney Paragon twice today, both for lunch AND dinner. Yes, i must either love Gurney Paragon or have no place else to go to. Answer is, neither of the above... hehe. It's simply because it's near to my work place and i went with a different group for lunch and another for dinner....

Since today was a friday and we had a long break for lunch on fridays, we decided to have lunch out. And a certain someone was keen to try-out this new Japanese restaurant at Gurney Paragon called Goku Raku Ramen. Seems that the place has been opened 2 months ago since December 2011.

The interior design is simple and gives you a feeling as though you've transported back into the '60s - note the rounded edges of the window to the kitchen, and arches on the ceiling. And coincidentally (..or not), Bee Gees music was playing in the background. Haha

They mainly have (like the name suggests) ramen noodles... The only difference between each different ramen is the soup flavour. Ingredient wise almost the same, safe for the egg that comes with Ultimate ramen.

And you are given a choice or small or large bowls of noodles.

Drinks came in large glasses - like the ones you drink beer in, and there's free refills!
