My Birthday! I'm a big GIRL now

It's my Birthday and I'm loving it!

In the days building-up to my big birthday, I have been celebrating with lots of cake and lots of eating! :)

What better thing to do for birthdays than to eat and be merry!

On 26th June - the start of all celebrations

This was at Baskin Robbins. I had the cookies and cream ice-cream cake with a Jamoca Almond ice-cream waffle... and yes, the candles :)

27th June - Dinner @ Delicious

We ordered the Strawberry Pavlova & Tiramisu

28th June - Dinner @ Blooms

This was a special dessert of lava cake and ice-cream. Had a candel lighted for me too... aawww...

29th June - Dinner @ The Ship, Batu Ferringhi - Pre-birthday Dinner

Had a cheese cake and a present!! Super ecstatic!

30th June - Birthday Lunch @ Via Pre

Already made my wish and blown my candle... The cake was an Apple crumble

30th June - Birthday Dinner @ Salsa

Loved this restaurant! Had always gone to Salsa's for numerous celebrations... and my birthday with the family was no exception :))

B.I.R.T.H.D.A.Y

Got a lovely card from parents... with cash :))

My official birthday cake! with special candles!! :)))

My latest present!! A Speedy 30 from Louis Vutton!! Absolutely love it! This bag is made in France with the lovely leather trimmings and canvas checkered body. I got my friend who was going to paris that time to get me a Speedy 30... and here it is... hahah :))

So happy!

La Vanille Pastry @ Hutton Lane

La Vanilla is a small pastry place for all things sweet and cute. It's located along Hutton Lane. And there's a reason why Hutton lane is called a lane and not a road. Hutton lane is super narrow what with parking on both sides of the road. Thus, parking in this area is super super crazy!! Hate the parking. Unfortunately, this lovely shop is situated here. And it was in April that we went to pay them a visit...

As I've said before, La Vanille seem to have everything sweet, cutesy, and pastel... It reminds me very much of a country home but without roses... I love their tiffany blue theme colour with the little bunny...

They sell cakes, cupcakes, biscuits, macaroons and also serve light lunches too! It's a very cozy  affair when it comes to La Vanille.

Like stated in their own webpage, La Vanille stands for The Vanilla in French as the owner herself loves vanilla.

More menu items were written on an overhead board above the counter. I couldn't read all and just ordered what I could see over their display counter. It seems that they also sell lunch and coffee, which was what I found out later... having read through the boards overhead.

Menu on a black board...

They also cater for weddings, and functions... their famous cupcake tier... sits in the display window as you enter their shop...

Enough of the simple yet effective décor... Now it's down to their food.
I only went there after lunch, so I was mainly having desserts...
We ordered the blue berry cheese cake RM8.90

This was a really solid dense slice of cheese cake. It was superbly cheesy! The jam on top was abit scarce, Would have loved to have more jam... But the body of the cake, with the dense cheese, was really worth every penny! :)
The base was made of I think it was oreo biscuits... nice!

We next ordered macaroons.. which seem to be an on-going trend these days...
They were selling for RM4 per piece and RM11 for 3 pieces.

The flavours that were left that day was only 4 types: green tea, hazelnut, pandan and jasmine
Too bad they didn't have the other flavours...
Anyway, I chose all except for pandan.

As it turns out, I liked the hazelnut one! No surprise there.. hehe
But the jasmine flavoured one was a real surprise! The filling was chocolate , so that made it even better than the hazelnut.

October Birthdays!

October has been a special month to me. It's probably because of the fact that two very important people in my life have their birthdays in October! The other reason is probably because most of my friends' birthdays also fall in the month of October.

So, October babies, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you!!

This year, to celebrate, we wanted something special. Not the usual cake, but ICE-CREAM CAKE.
Baskin Robins was the choice.

As you can see, the above cake has strawberry ice-cream with vanilla sponge cake. Super yum!

siTigun @ Jalan Nagore

After eating at PikNik (from earlier post here), we headed across to siTigun for some coffee. Neither of us have been there and so this was a rare but good opportunity to try-out the cafès along Nagore Road.
Micro coffee roastery, as the canopy says... As we wee walking in, the aroma from the coffee was evident in the air. Ahh... smell of fresh coffee always makes me feel right at home.

The place was decorated with many pieces reminding you of the good old days. A special mention should be worthy of a bicycle which is hung at the back of the shop, just next to the coffee counter. Super cool! The other paraphernalia that they had adorning the cafe was this huge 'wau' or traditional kite (as in pic)
As we were already full from the previous cafe, we only had drinks and dessert here.
I ordered their siTigun regular coffee and my other friend ordered a cuppa hot capucino.

I have a video of my drink, which I will include later once i've figured out how to block off the sound.

Anyway, we also ordered a slice of apple pie (RM14. something - if i remembe correctly)
It came with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream.

They also serve tiramisu by the way and alot of other cakes too

I gather that this place mainly caters to tourist and young yuppies of Penang, i suppose, as the prices are quite alot for coffe and pie... oh well... perhaps this is the going rate for tourist? or I'm just too trifty?

Check out the place at their website here

Kuala Lumpur (DAY 2)

Today after work, I headed off to KLCC for shopping and dinner.

As usual, the parking in KL is typically 'crazy'! Found a spot here, luckily, near to Isetan! Apparantly, Suria KLCC is undergoing some renovations, so certain places are blocked off temporarily.

Isetan!! er, carpark area .. hehe

Most complicated car-park so far encountered! KLCC

Passed throught Isetan KLCC and came across delightful-looking cakes, sweets & pastries!! They all looked soooo YUMMY! I could practically hear them calling me to the display window. Naturally, out came my Canon S90. This is what i managed to *snap*, *snap* :)

cakes...

more cakes...

even more cakes....!!!

so many choices!

M-A-C-A-R-O-O-N-S!

Finally after having been spoilt for choices, I decided to go for the lovely cakes! I picked two. The White Chocolate Strawberry and the Marjolaine, from Bites Quickie @ Shimbo Katsunori.
Marjoaine on right, White Chocolate Strawberry on left

The carrier box is as cute as the cakes! See bunny ears (circled). The box is actually a CAT!

White Chocolate Strawberry cake

The White Chocolate Strawberry cake was really good! The sourness of the strawberries was not too overpowering thanks to the sweet almost creamy white chocolate!

The Marjolaine cake was equally delicious! It's like a layered cake, only layered with chocolate and cream! sooo good! :)

I went to Kinokinuya KLCC too!
My good self managed to stay away from buying any Mooks this time around, as promised to myself. Well, in all honestly, I really didn't find any mooks offering freebies that took my fancy. I was alittle drawn to the Snoopy mook & bag, though. It did have a zipper to the bag, but in the end, self-control triumphed over over-indulgence. (yay!)
Freebies from Japanese Mooks (right)

I did however, came across magazines that I did understand with cool freebies at super affordable prices.

Her World's (RM7.00) October issue comes with a free 'herworld' shopping bag. I've been collecting shopping bags lately.. consciously and unconsciously :) It comes in handy when back in Penang, it's 'No Plastic' day everyday! Three cheers for being 'Eco-friendsly'!

Finally, the reason of this actual post is this! NuYou's (RM8.00) October issue freebie - Chloe perfume. It's so cute! The bottle comes with a nozzle head to spray-spray* the 1.2ml sample. Smells good too!

Up-close pic of the Nozzle spray (cool!)

Such a cute bottle 1.2ml Chloe perfume

Free with NUYOU oct issuse
NUYOU also comes with FREE shampoo & sanitary pad

Get it quick before it's all gone... err, well when i went today, the counter lady had like 10 plus more samples la... (ok, no rush..heh)

After flipping through the mag, which is super thick by the way, there were also FREE samples from Head&Shoulders (shampoo) and Laurier (sanitary pad). This mag seems to be loaded for only just RM8! *smiles*
