Sakae Sushi @ 1st Avenue

The month of January, Sakae Sushi is offering their monthly specials.

This is called the Blue Paradise Maki.

I was so facinated by the blue colour on this sushi that I ordered it without reading the what the sushi contains... haha
But it tasted good. The blue thinggy you see is actually the sauce that the sushi is adorned with. To me, the sauce tastes more of a mayo just in the colour blue :P RM8.80  for members and RM10.80 for non-members

This cute pink plate was ordered from the kid's menu selection. It's fried scallop with potato stuffing. Simple and cute! Delicious too... RM3.99

This yellow plate is also one of the monthly specials for January. This one's called Ocean Crispy Roll. See the prawns topping the sushi? That's cooked prawns rolled, sitting on top of a egg mayo sauce. The bottom part i think is friend bread roll?? haha... very interesting dish. Try it!! RM7.80 for members and RM9.80 for non-members

We had Sakae sushi on the 7 Jan 2013... and this was the first time we ordered almost all coloured plates on the menu... red, yellow, green, black, pink... only one plate was missing and that was gold! haahha... Happy New Year!! (Happy first week of January 2013.. i mean.. hahah)

Gloria Jeans Coffee

Penang has yet another coffee outet selling great yummy coffee. I should wanna call it 'designer coffee'. For starters, the pricing of the drink itself puts it in a totally different category as the usual kopitiam (local coffee shops) found along many a streets in downtown Georgetown :)
And for seconds, these 'designer coffees' are, well, mainly imported beans - which smell great, by the way.
Anyhow, Penangites have now, the choice of Gloria Jeans coffees to choose from, apart from the already many other coffee retailers that have sprouted throughout the island. Yay for coffee lovers...

Yes, yes, yes, Gloria Jeans has finally come to Penang. It's first and currently sole outlet in Penang is in 1st Avenue, ground floor to be exact. It has taken home in the outlet which was previously Breeks cafe. The latter has since closed down.

Gloria Jeans has been in Malaysia for some time - only mainly in KL. I have seen Gloria Jeans in KL previously and was wondering if they would ever come-up to Penang. Now that it is available to Penangites, I was pleasantly surprised that Gloria Jeans also carries their own line of Lasagna. I was curious enough to wanna try it out.

It cost me alot, i remember thinking to myself "this better taste good'. Sorry i can;t remember the price though. But in the end i think it tasted like any other microwaved meal - flat.
A big disappointment on my taste buds.

The big safe came from the drinks. I ordered chocolate blended... with cream. YUM! I'm a huge chocolate fan, so no surprise there :)

I'm glad that Penang has now many choices of coffee outlets to choose from. StarBucks N CoffeeBean, you've got competition :)

There's O'brien, Pacific Coffee, and now Gloria Jeans... aaahhh, choices choices :)

Yi café @ 1st Avenue

I was at 1st Avenue today.. partly because I haven't been there in a long while... and partly because i wanted to take photoes/ see the Lego displays held there.

Also, One Academy was having their sort-of exhibition with a display of art-work by their students at 1st Avenue. Wanted to get my caricreture done.. but chickened out at the last minute.

So, here's what we had for lunch. It was as Yi Cafe. A restaurant offering chinese food, dim sum, and also japanese cuisine... quite a variety... the price.. also ahem...

da Menu
I ordered the HongKong style fried rice. It was good! Liked the fact that they served it with chicken floss and cashuenuts...(delightful*). Really worth the money...
Fried rice ... HongKong style RM err.. cant quite remember.. RM7 maybe
We also ordered crisy noodles... it was seafood... came with yummy mushrooms...not bad this one.
Noodles...RM 9
I;d wanted to try-out their dim sum variety.. so this is what I ordered. Ha Kao... or prawn dumpling... Quite disappointing. You could say I've had better... The skin was too thick and gooey...
Prawn dumplings RM4.50 per plate of 3
Lastly, a pot of tea to go with any chinese dish... they also offer individual cups of tea... but the pot is more worth it :)
The whole pot costs RM5

New Year Dessert

Since we were in 1st Avenue, I noticed a few new restaurants which opened on the 1st of Jan 2012 in conjunction with the long weekend holidays and or course new year's.

Next to the SHaboo World, was this new shop selling yogurt called Yooogurt... haha... yes, yogurt with 3 Os. Hehe... the proter said the brand is from Korea.

The lady promoter also said that they were having a 5% discount promotion going on in conjuction with their opening...

As you can see, they too offer various toppings... and the whole concept is similar to Tutti Frutti, where the price of the yogurt is based on the final weight of yogurt plus topping :)

Oh, they sell cakes, and shakes too...

Cakes... circled
I suppose Malaysia now is getting hit my the Frozen Yogurt craze ever since Tutti Frutti started. See earlier post.

Now, there're so many other shops selling frozen yogurt... haha...so more choices to choose from..

The only difference i noticed is the toppings @ Yooogurt. They offer a good choice of nuts/seeds: Sunflower seeds, qua chee, almond nuts, hazel nuts... I took ém all... coz i'm a nut/seed lover...

New Year Steam Boat @ Shaboo World, 1st Avenue.

What a great way to start the new year by having Steam Boat!

Yesterday, 1.1.2012, we had dinner at the newly opened Shaboo World @ 1st Avenue.

They are currently having a promotion. RM1 for selected food items.

They also offer 2 different soups - Chicken stock or Tom Yam... and guess what, the soup is free flow... only RM1.90 per person...

All dishes are individually priced. So you can pick the ones you really want to eat, unlike other restaurants where they have set meals.

And this restaurant uses Electrolux hot plates... see insert
Not bad, eh? I kinda have this respect for Electrolux branded items... :)

The owner was really friendly (no surprise here, as this was the opening day of the restaurant), keen to know the feedback from his customers...

He was a pleasant guy :)

And to  my surprise, the meal only came to RM25.80! cheap lor... I suppose it was because of the RM1 deal :) But when we went, a few items that we wanted were all sold out... :(

So hurry before the promo runs out. Deals are from 1.1.2012 - 15.1.2012

And got it on a perfect date: 11.11.11

Now, it's a date I'll remember & share with those who got married today - supposed to be Auspicious  ^-^

So, yes, I finally got this baby from 1st Avenue - Samsung's authorized dealer

Now, to really test this baby out...

And just to make a note here.. Those of you who thought the Galaxy note's charger came as a 2-pin plug, are sorely mistaken! hehe
